James J. Braddock, World Heavy-Weight Champion

Welcome to the official guestbook of the James J Braddock website. Due to spam, we have been forced stop guestbook entries.

The Fox family can not wait to see the movie. My father-in-law ,George Fox, youngest brother of Mae Fox Braddock,
always shared stories about his brother-in-law James Braddock. My husband Charles is Rosemarie's godson. All of George Fox's children and grandchildren have been following the news about the movie and are looking forward to its release.

I grew up in Hudson County (Union City) and i was amazed to read that James Braddock went to St. Joe`s H.S. in West New York. I taught there in the `70s ! Hello to all in N.J.

WOW! I was just floored to see the same photo of Mr. Braddock and my grandfather (Max Roesch) that hangs in my grandfather's hallway. The photo is located under links and the Braddock photo archive...amazing!!!

My granfather was in Mr. Braddock's training camp and sparred with him. His name was Max Roesch and his career was ended abruptly due to an eye injury. I was very excited to hear about the movie being made about this great man and champion. Best wishes

My husband is Jim Hague, author of "Braddock, The Rise of the Cinderella Man" which came out 4/5/05. We're both born and raised in Hudson County and are very proud of our Irish heritage. Looking forward to the movie and hopefully, everyone will enjoy Jim's book on this great sports figure and son of Hudson County.

Another in a long line of great Irish-American fighters. An inspiring story of a fighter, then a boxer, and more importantly, a fine individual. Only James J. Braddock, heavyweight champion could be overshadowed by James J. Braddock, the man, to those who knew him.

Much anticipation for the movie premiere and I know Ron Howard, as always, will not disappoint. Should be a classic. Slainte!

When I opened up a recent issue of Sports Illustrated, I was faced with a picture of Braddock that was really heartwarming. The picture itself communicated how Braddock was truly just a humble man who was just fighting to feed his family during the Depression. He had this look of uncertainty and possible regret, almost like the little guy just getting into a fight with the school bully right. But the most amazing part is, as I read the accompanying excerpt from Jeremy Schaap's book "Cinderella Man," the "little guy" that I saw in the picture really did stand up to the "bully," and won the world heavyweight title. Braddock is the classic example of the American Dream, and I can not wait to witness his life in the new film.

I am mortified as to why cinemagoers in the UK will have to wait three months longer than folks in the US to see this much-awaited film. Does anyone have the answer to that, please?

I am named after James Braddock and trying to find out the connection because along the lines I am related to him. I think that he is a Great Uncle, but not sure

I was fortunate enough to see an advanced screening of the movie last night in Denver. All I can say is "HOME RUN". What a terrific story. In todays world of greedy athletes it's truly uplifting to see a story about a true Champion in the ring and in his life. The cast is terrific and the story is heart wrenching. I will definitely go again when it comes out in June.

I had the opportunity to view a pre screening of the movie in Denver last night. What a terrific film. Russell Crowe is fantastic as the Champ. I would definitely suggest this movie to everyone. Talk about a role model. Thank you to the Braddock family for letting his story be told. In todays world of greedy athletes, it's nice to see a true athlete and Champion recognized for the Man he was.

I can't wait to see the movie. When I first saw the trailer at the movie theater this past Friday I was first interested becuase Russel Crowe was in it, but as soon as I heard the name James J Braddock I recognized it. I grew up around the block from the park that bears his name. Growing up I never knew who James J. Braddock was but I knew he must have been important to have a park named after him. I am dismayed to find out that it was not filmed in NY and in the area where he lived. I would have liked that it was filmed in the same area. Again I can't wait to see the movie and I sad that as I gre up I never bothered to find out who this man was. I wonder if I ever went to school at North Bergen High with any of his relatives.

It is so good to hear about a sports hero who was a real gentleman. Hopefully he will become an inspiration to many of the overpaid and drug taking athletes of today.

I use to deliver Mr. Braddocks paper when I was a kid in North Bergen. He lived a couple blocks from where the park that now bears his name is. He was a class act and everyone admired and respected him, especially me. He would also visit a local candy store I worked in and everyone would say that guy was once the heavyweight champ. Also, I went to school at North Bergen High with his grandson and was his catcher on the baseball team for a year. I am glad to see the champ finally get recognition on film.

As a detroit native many say Louis was the greatest fighter that ever lived, but one of his greatest fights other then losing and then beating Max was his bout with Braddock. Braddock was a great fighter and a great man.

I was reading down the posts and it's funny to see names of cousins I haven't heard of in a long time. Someone mentioned the Bautz's a few posts down. My gradparents always spoke of the Bautz's highly. I think some are still residing in Pt. Pleasant Beach as I recently saw Bobby & Fran (Braddock) Bautz at my father's funeral.

Jimmy was my great-uncle. My grandparents are Joe "Morris" (Jimmy's brother...) and Elizabeth Braddock (both decesed). I think this is a great site for all the relatives to get in touch. this is agreat site for the family to keep in touch. It's great to finally have the story told that my grandfather told me so many times while I was growing up...

I am apalled that most people in West New York and North Bergen have no clue who is James Braddock and refer to the beautiful park across the street from me as "Park 80". First of all, the entrance is on 79 th. Second, please correct people if you hear them call the park by the wrong name.

I was fortunate to act as an extra actor in the Cinderella Man production here in Toronto.
This story is close to my heart, as a Canadian Fighter with a deceased Irish Dad who was an R.A.F. Pilot, a trooper Mom, a Princess Wife and our girl Brodie and boy Keidis.
This Movie and the movie making experience was truly the American Dream, and wish to thank Ron Howard and Russell Crowe and Mr. Braddock.
When we're down, it's up to us.
