James J. Braddock - Guestbook

James J. Braddock, World Heavy-Weight Champion

Welcome to the official guestbook of the James J Braddock website. Due to spam, we have been forced stop guestbook entries.

I really enjoyed the movie "Cinderella Man," and, like so many others, am in awe of James J. Braddock. I haven't read all 215 pages of the "guestbook," so I'm sorry if this topic has come up before on this site.

While watching the fight footage on your site of the "real" Braddock vs. Baer championship fight, it's hard to miss the large "Star of David" on Max Baer's trunks. Ron Howard chose not to include that star in "Cinderella Man," but it got me to wondering: were there any anti-Semitic feelings in 1935 from Braddock, his manager, his fans, or the fight world - favoring Braddock over Baer, not because Braddock was such a hero for the common people, but because Baer was Jewish. Baer certainly incurred the ire of Nazi Germany when he beat Schmeling a couple years before the Braddock fight.

Just wondering!
Regards,
Joe

add some more fight footage please, that 15th round looked kinda lousy, both fighters were tired, Baer won that round going away. James seems like he liked to lead with his head and sort of head butt the opponent on his way in, a gritty style. I would like to see the whole fight sometime. Even the corn griffin fight too, if its around, that would be cool

I continue to watch Cinderilla Man everytime it comes on HBO - even though I have the DVD! It is a story of a true American hero. It portrays a time in history when honor and responsibility was cherished and practiced. I think of my parents and how they grew up in those rough times. I am so pleased that many of you also find such value and joy in this story. It is with such spirit and determination that this country continues to be great. May God bless.

...I've now seen the movie over 20 times. My love for period piece movies like Aviator,Tucker, Seabisquit and now Cinderella Man, keep bringing to me hope and inspiration to always press on no matter what the odds may be.
Thanks a lot to Ron Howard for constantly bringing out great and meaningful films. Thanks to Mr.Crowe for doing a great portrayal of Mr. Braddock and many thanks to the Braddock family. They deserve a great deal of thanks and applause.More movies should be just like this. But it's not often we find a man with the courage and heart of a James Braddock.

Having watch this movie for the third time, I decided to see what was on the web for this unbelievable man. How inspiring a story! During a time when there was so much hardship and the everyday person had not much to believe in along comes James J. Braddock. The values that he must of instilled in his family. The Braddock family my have had their had times and times of great sorrow but you are richer than many with such a family member to take inspuration from. James Braddock had the right idea, no matter how bad you think things are for you there is always someone else who could be worse off. Never give up, family is the driving force no matter what may befall that family. Together the family will survive but apart it is but a fraction of the power and drive. Thank you for allowing so many of us have the opertunity to get to know just a small part of who and what your family was and is. Lynn

Mr. Braddock was a great role model. If only half the kids today had an ounce of determination that he had, this world would be a better place. You are truly blessed to be a part of a legacy.

A true inspiration ... just watched the movie with my son. This is not meant to be a movie review, but a comment on the drive and determination of an individual that inspired those around him. As always, when the family comes first, the determination to win is invisible.

An inspiration. The fight footage is amazing to watch. Braddock's determination and grit reminds me sort of our (Canada's) great George Chuvalo.

Jimmy Braddock is a huge inspiration in my life. I'm a boxer myself, and a big boxing history buff. When the movie came out I thought it was great. Life, not just boxing, needs more people like the great Jimmy Braddock

Watching the Gillette Wednesday Night Fights in the 60's made me appreciate the story of James Braddock. His story and the movie demonstrated his high values of life, his heart and determination. I truly admire people like this in life. Congratulations to the Braddock Family!

Growing up, as a fan of boxing, I had heard the story of the Cinderella Man, JJ Braddock. I watched the movie and talked to my mother about it, she remembers the night of the fight, her father pacing the floor listening to the radio and rooting for Braddock to win. She told me he was an inspiration to all during the Depression era and that after watching the movie, she cried because it bought back memories of just how hard the times were and how important the fight was to her father and everyone else that lived during that time, thanks for letting me post this

In the early 60's, I worked for the Pennslyvania railroad in the Greenville Yard in Jersey City. That is where they constructed a large part of the Verrozano Bridge. I remeber Mr. Braddock walking around the yard. A very quite big man. I also remember his like for the Lima pea soup at the local resturant. Great man.

I've seen the movie like 10 times already and I would say the story of this man is VERY INSPIRING, it's truly a great example of determination and perseverance despite adversity in life...It's similar to the story of our BOXING HERO "MANNY PACQUIAO" God bless to Braddock's Family! =>
