James J. Braddock - Guestbook
Welcome to the official guestbook of the James J Braddock website. Due to spam, we have been forced stop guestbook entries.
My son took me to see the movie yesterday for my birthday. I love boxing and true history movies so I was anxious to see it. I loved all of it and cried several times. I have heard the name James J. Braddock before but did not know much about him. I will look forward to learning more about him.

I've never cared for boxing or Russell Crowe, but this wonderful movie really made me appreciate both. It's a terrific homage to a man everyone would be proud to know. I hope to see several Oscar nods next spring. They will be richly deserved.

While my wife is out of town with a daughter, another daughter is in Army boot camp, two remaining kids took me out see the movie last night, on Father's Day. What a testimony to the meaning of fatherhood and family! Jimmy served on Saipan in 1945, while my dad, another Irishman with the middle name Joseph, was on nearby Tinian, both islands in the Marianas Chain helping end the war by putting B-29 missions up. Others may criticize Howard's style as lacking subtlety, but it's all there, just between the lines. Faith, fortitude, fidelity, a fierce defense of honor, are the message of this drama, intertwined with great boxing scenes. I loved how Mae throws a drink into Max's face, and Jimmy's response to Baer's derisive comment, "Ain't she great?" Little snippets of humor, like the 'doggy bag' scene, and Jim (Crowe) kissing the bald pate of one of the final fight's referees, were priceless. We can't wait to get the movie home on DVD and view all of the special features which Ron will most assuredly embellish with the life of James Joseph Braddock.

My dad, Tom "Bucky" Walbert, is 85 and was a boxer before World War II. My brother and I took him to see Cinderella Man on Saturday. It was a wonderful movie, one of the best I've seen in a long time. Dad mentioned that he once met James J. Braddock. It was when my dad was 14, back in 1934 at a gym in New York where James J. Braddock was training. He said that Russell Crowe didn't look at all like him. Braddock had curly black hair and blue eyes. At least, that's how my dad remembers him. Dad became a boxer to help put food on the table for his family during the 1930's. I think the movie really showed how tough things were back then. James J. Braddock was certainly one to be proud of.

I just came home from the movies. The story of James J. Braddock is one of the most inspirational films I have ever seen. This man, against all obstacles refused to give up. The love for his family, combined with his committment to never give up made him a great man, and a stand out champion. I pray that his children, and his children's children realize what a great man Mr. Braddock was in the ring as well as outside.

Thank you for a wonderful movie. I don't think I've been in a theatre for 20 years. My husband and I went to see it on Father's day. We were truly moved. I only remember boxing watching on TV as a very dull show. What a wonderful story of a wonderful man. A true humanitarian. To all that helped make this movie, congratulatoins. You have truly shown the best side of man kind.

A couple of friends and I went to see "Cinderella Man" this weekend and I was so moved by the movie, it implused me to find out more about this great fighter. I come from a family of boxers and I'm always thrilled to see the lives of champions in life and sports protrayed with such excellence. I grew up in NYC and I'm very honored to know that Braddock gave so much back to his community. Ron Howard has done it again!!!

Wow! My wife was out of town Father's Day, but my daughter took me to brunch and treated me to Cinderella Man. Russell, Rene, the kids, and Ron Howard should be very proud. My boxing background goes back a few years, but the title fight was prior to my birth. I saw this as not a boxing movie but a movie about the toughest times in our country for everyone and how one family dealt with the economic problems of the times. It was about the never give-up attitude of the man and his family. The boxing matches were a little icing on the cake for me. First time I remember actually crying at a theater. Wow...again!

I also saw the movie for Fathers Day last nite. Wow..I yelled and I cried. I did not know much about Jim Braddock but he was a true champ and more importantly a great dad.! I live in Staten Island and saw the Verrazzano Bridge being built in the early 60's and never knew that a this champion was helping to construct this structure.
Ron Howard...another great job!
Where are these champs today?

My fiance took me to see the movie on Father's Day. He is a boxing fanatic, and he himself had a brief professional career in boxing. His father also was an amateur fighter back in Pittsburgh, PA and had passed on a great deal of boxing history and information including the story of Jim Braddock many years ago. So when this movie came out, he already knew the history of this man and we just had to see it. It was the best movie I've seen in years. He also mentioned that they failed to bring out the fact that one of the fighters that Max Baer had killed was struck in the back of the head by Max as he turned to complain to the referee about being fouled. Thank you Braddock family for this website and your memories. What a great man your grandfather was! He was truly an example of the "Greatest Generation" of which my father also belonged!

Mu husband and I decided to see this beautiful movie on Father's Day. This story was so inspiring; it made us be aware of how blessed we are in this world today amongst all the negative things going on. The Cinderella Man was and will continue being an inspiration to all of us who think it can't get any better. His love for his family kept him going. And of course, he had a great wife that supported him through it all. I can certainly say that without such support backing Mr. Braddock, he might of not been able to, with confidence accomplish what he did.

My wife and I saw "The Cinderella Man" on Father's Day weekend. We were both very inspired at the kind of man Mr. Braddock was. His devotion to family and country should be an example for all of us. I will take my father to see the movie this week. He is a great dad and big boxing fan. I cannot wait for him to see it.

I have seen "Cinderella Man" seven times. The moments are many that bring me back. Movies about great men are so few; this one is the best. Ron Howard should get an Oscar along with Crowe and Giamanti. Just a great movie viewing experience. I shall never forget these performances!

Great Show! If Mr. Braddock was half the family man the movie protrayed him, you had a fantastic Dad! My wife and I loved the show and the story line.

Great story About my great uncle.
When I was born September of 1936 James J. Braddock sent my dad a very small pair of boxing gloves which I still have today.

Wonderful movie about a truly great person and lovely family man. I saw the movie yesterday after seeing a special about him on the A&E Network. I seldom get to the movies these days, but it was worth going. I wish they were more good men and athletes today for the kids to look up to. You can be very proud of your heritage.

I just wanted to let you know that I have just seen the movie, "Cinderella Man". I am so proud to see a man with such morals and strength of character. My only regret is that I wasn't born yet to meet such a inspirational, couragous man. You must be very pleased to call him Dad.

My husband and I went to see the movie "Cinderella Man" this weekend. It was wonderful to see a story made about a man who was faithful to his wife, loyal to his children, a man who taught his children morals, and who was willing to risk everything to better his family. Many times we think that just one person can't make a difference in people around us but James J. Braddock obviously inspired people to be grateful for all blessings and to be a person of integrity. May you, his family, be honored to have a heritage and legacy like that.
