James J. Braddock, World Heavy-Weight Champion

Welcome to the official guestbook of the James J Braddock website. Due to spam, we have been forced stop guestbook entries.

My wife and I just saw the movie tonight. Man, what an event! I was moved to recall my grandfather's conversations with me regarding boxers of his day. I remember him talking about that name, but had forgotten the context. I felt connected to the era of my grandparents through this movie. The cast in the movie is awesome. This is one of my top ten movies of all time.

Just returned from cinema where I saw Cinderella man (Russell Crowe). What a fantastic story, what an inspiration the man must have been to all those down on their luck in the bleak years of the depression. If the world had a few more like him we would have worthwhile role models for the kids of today. God bless and RIP Mr Braddock

Just saw the movie...WOW! Jim's story mirrors that of my Uncle's who grew up in Clifton, NJ, suffered through the depression and was a Gold Gloves amatuer boxer in the late 30s up to WWII. It brought tears to my eyes. My Uncle Bud is now 88 years old and living with his wife of 60 years in Florida. If the movie was any indication, Jim Braddock seems to have been a great man.

I have seen the movie four times in the past two weeks. It is a lesson in how to be a man. one night I saw it
and four teenagers were in the theater
being slightly rowdy before the show.
They had kicked off their shoes and had their bare feet up on the seats in front of them. Thirty minutes into the movie they had their shoes back on and were sitting properly. Jimmy Braddock had reached out over the years and touched them.

Watched the movie last night. Was so impressed by James and Mae as people that I had to find out more about them and see if there was any embelllishing going on. ;) I'm so happy to read that he truly was a hero to so many in his day and continues to be one of inspiration today. Thanks for the great website! Kellie

I've not even seen the movie, but great, entertaining site.

There is something that comes through the photographs and the text about James Braddock. Look at his face, celtic features of wide cheek bones and genuiness.

Look at the photo's of him with his family and friends what you see is what you get, absolute joy and warmth. I never knew him. But then on reflection I always knew his irish qualities of Kindness and truth. Those were the qualities of my father. A mayo man of of intergrity and unswerving honesty who drank from the same spiritual cup as James Braddock. What a fitting tribute. James Braddock top banana.

Good luck

Thanks to the Bradock family for maintaning this web site, it has really expanded my appreciation for the life and example of James Bradock. I saw the trailer for the movie since before it was released in the US. There was a pre-opening show last week here in Mexico. Althoguh I had to work early the next day I only got tickets for the last showing and left the theater at almost 1 AM. It was all worth it.

I never heard about this man before, until I realized that a new movie with Russel Crowe acting were released.
I felt connected to the movie, to the carachter on the screen. I can understand the man, my grandpa' had some problems just like Braddock, and much people all around the world.
It's good to know that are people who can pass over this walls.
I'm sorry about my poor english, but I really wanted to write something here.

Wow! Thank you for sharing the story of the life of such a wonderful man. I was edified by the story of Jim and Mae's faith in God, and the love of family. Also, the love and respect for each other. What a beautiful life! Thank you, Sue Arend

I saw Cinderella Man today, and I rate it as one of the best movie I've seen in my life. The story of Jim and Mae Braddock's life is inspiring and moving. Wish we had more people like them - the world would have been a much much better place. Till the movie ended, I thought Jim Braddock was a figment of someone's good imagination - it was that difficult to imagine someone real being that great. It is amazing to hear the story of triumph of resolve over grave difficulties.

I sat in the front seat of the movie house tonight. It was the 2 dollar theatre. But, the film was worth a million bucks. I was not prepared for the impact that the story would have on me. JJ Braddock inspired me to be more of a family man and a man of integrity. The only thread that held me together was the fact that people would see me crying as I left the theatre. That wasn't going to happen! Anyway, thanks for the story and the website.

What a wonderful movie. Hollywood needs to produce more quality work like this. The morals and values portrayed by Jim & Mae Braddock are inspiring to see in today's corrupt culture. Thank you for sharing your grandfather's story of a family filled with love, strength and perseverance. And thanks to Ron Howard for producing a clean movie - what a breath of fresh air! We won't forget Jim Braddock.

I'm not into boxing but I had seen the preivew of Cinderella Man and finally saw the movie. What an inspiring story. Jim Braddock loved his family so much and all he did was inspired by his love for them. What a great story. I know you were very proud of him.

Presently I am unemployed and searching for suitable emplyment. What an uplifting experience and an inspiration to persevere after seeing this wonderful motion picture. The hardships of what Mr.Braddock faced, fought and overcame due to his strength, strong will and faith in God are a lesson to everyone in my situation to never give up.
Sincerely,

I regret to say that until today I had no idea that such an unbelieveable human being really existed. I always thought people like this were only made up in hollywood. James J. Braddock seems unreal to me. They dont make people like this anymore. People now a days give up in the face of adversity, but this one man never quit. After he lost everything and life got too hard he just swollowed his pride and fought back. I cant believe this is based on a real person. I just want to say thank you to the family for sharing his story because I am at a point in my life where it seems like the easiest thing to do is just quit, but tonight as I sit in front of my computer I realize that quiting is not a option. Thank you for giving me strength and courage to face the world. Remember my name, I will make something of myself and show the world that the spirit of Braddock lives in all of us including those who think that everything around them is crumbling. This story gave me strength.

When I was a kid, as a boxing fan, I cut out all the newspaper pictures of Jim Braddock. My wife and I went to see the very good movie, today, Cinderella Man. I came home to look up Braddock's statistics.
