Just saw "Cinderella Man" and found this website. I grew up in northern NJ and was new to the world when all this took place, but I definitely recall stories from my Irish father about Jim (Jimmy?) Braddock and how he inspired people struggling with the Depression. And how really great he was. I recall hearing about the underdog who "pounded the mortal sins right out of Maxie Baer." How interesting to see the movie and most of all this website. . a great tribute to the champion!

As a Jersey kid myself, I cannot help but have great respect for the man, and what he did. I rented the movie for my dad, who was 12 when this fight happened. I swear he was tearing up through the whole thing. Great work.

i saw the movie and after watching i was very inspired. My father came to america from sicily at around the same time and also fell on hard times. JUST LIKE THE CHAMP JAMES BRADDOCK MY FAMILY WAS HIS MOST IMPORTANT FUNCTION IN HIS LIFE. AND MY DAD WAS A BEAUTIFUL HUMAN BEING JUST LIKE BRADDOCK. WHEN THE MOVIE FIRST CAME OUT I DISMISSED IT, BUT AFTER SEEING IT, HE IS TRULY A HERO WITHOUT A BAD BONE OR BAD THING TO SAY ABOUT ANYBODY JUST LIKE MY DAD. MAY GOD BLESS HIS FAMILY AND MAY THEY BOTH REST IN PEACE. A TRUE GENTLEMAN AND INSPIRATION IN A WORLD OF MADNESS. WHEN MEN WERE MEN!!!!

I have to agree with the previous posting... I myself had never heard of James Braddock until the movie, which by the way, I just watched last night. JJB is what being a man is all about. He was committed to his family, church, and his country. We need another hero like James today. Someone to give the nation hope not only by word, like most athelets today, but most importantly by his actions, the way he lived his life.
My grandfather and great grandfather were amateur boxers and I found myself on the edge of the couch and then up off the couch yelling like it was happening right now! A great movie and a great man, I don’t think there are more than a handful of men that could live up to JJB these days.

I myself had never heard of James Braddock until the movie, which by the way, i bought and have watched 20-30 times, but he is what being a man is all about. He was committed to his family, church, and his country. We need another hero like James today. Someone to give the nation hope not only by word, like most athelets today, but most importantly by his actions, the way he lived his life, like James did.

Having learned of Jim Braddock via the recent movie, I regret not knowing of his history earlier. While helping to construct the Verrazano bridge in the early 1960's, it would have been an honor to have attempted to meet him when stationed at Fort Totten, LI in that period. Little doubt that the mold was broken following the gentleman's birth. My kind of an American.

Not only a great fighter but just a very decent family man , far too few of them in this day and age. Your family comes from decent, honest hardworking stock always respect that and make them proud of the legacy.

A great man and a hell of a boxer. James J. Braddock was my great uncle and I am happy to see his life story hit the big screen. In case anyone is wondering his wife was part of the fox family and my grandpa's sister.

This was no Rocky movie..not to put down anyone else, but this was a life story, an insight and a very good presentation of boxing as it affects real life people. I was impressed with the movie, and I hope it presented Jim Braddock fairly. I am glad the movie was made. Your wedsite is impressive.. Thank you.

I use to following boxing in the days of lennox lewis and co, as a matter of fact all the way to maddison square garden. But over the years i have lost interest in most of todays fighters and followed mixed marshall arts (ufc). But i can say this after watching this amazing story it reminded just how a sport like boxing can bring all the qualities of a true champion. In a time when people must have so badly needed something to beleive in, comes a hero called Braddock. Not only did he manage to keep his family together he gave people hope.
Amazing, god bless you all.

I saw the movie Cinderella Man for the first time last night, and at first I had no idea it was about Jim Braddock, but rather a chick flick that would bore me to tears. How wrong I was, and although I'm no admirer of Russell Crowe, I truly appreciated his performance in this movie, along with Rene Zellweger's magnificient portrayal of Braddock's wife, Mae. How refreshing it was to see a Hollywood feature film that projected family values, hard work, and dedication to country, community, and God. I wish more people were like the Braddock family, and I certainly wish more films had values like Ron Howard projected in this film. To the Braddock family let me say this; your father and mother were true examples of what the values of life mean, and your heirs can rejoice in the fact that through their parents those values will always remain constant. God rest Jim and Mae's souls, and their children's souls as well, but rest assured the Braddock's grandchildren I'm sure treasure all of the values they learned from their grandparents.

I so enjoyed this movie!! It truly touches my heart to see the true love and dedication James had for his wife, children, friends and of course his passion for boxing. He is a true inspiration, who will always be remembered for doing what was right for so many. I have 3 boys of my own, and I can only hope that they grow up to be the loving, kind hearted gentleman James was! BRAVO Mr. Braddock....you are a true HERO in my eyes! God Bless!
